Making the Most of Ramadan with Daily Quran Recitation
Ramadan is the holiest month in the Islamic calendar — and its relationship with the Quran is inseparable. The Quran itself tells us that it was in Ramadan that it was first revealed. This makes Ramadan the perfect time to deepen your connection with Allah’s book.
The Tradition of Khatm al-Quran
Many Muslims aim to complete the entire Quran during Ramadan — a practice called Khatm al-Quran. The Quran has 30 Juz (parts), making it perfectly divisible across the 30 days of Ramadan. Even one Juz per day — roughly 20 pages — is achievable with consistency and intention.
A Practical Daily Routine
The most sustainable approach is to attach Quran recitation to your existing Ramadan routine. Read after Fajr, when the world is quiet and your mind is fresh. Read a few pages before Iftar, when the day’s fast has cultivated a sense of spiritual receptivity. Read before Taraweeh to prepare your heart for prayer.
Reading with Understanding
Completing the Quran in Ramadan is a beautiful goal — but reading with understanding is even more transformative. Use a translation alongside the Arabic. With Roman Urdu translation, Urdu speakers can read both simultaneously, allowing the meaning to flow naturally as they recite.
“Whoever reads a letter of the Quran will have a reward, and a good deed is multiplied by ten.” — Tirmidhi
In Ramadan, the rewards are multiplied further still. Every letter you read, every moment of contemplation, every tear that falls as you understand an ayah — all of it is counted by Allah, who sees and knows everything.
Beyond Ramadan
The goal is not to have a Ramadan Quran routine and a non-Ramadan life. Use Ramadan as the launch pad for a lifelong relationship with the Quran. Start the habit in Ramadan, and nurture it every day of the year. The Prophet ﷺ loved those who were consistent — even if their deeds were small.
May Allah grant us all the tawfeeq to recite, understand, and live by the Quran — in Ramadan and beyond. Ameen.
