Yunus is the 10th surah, 109 verses, and named after the prophet Yunus (Jonah). It's a Makki surah, and the central theme is one Makkan surahs come back to repeatedly: the proof that Allah is real, and the response of people who refuse to accept the proof.
The surah is named after Yunus but the story of Yunus only appears in two verses near the end. He's mentioned because his people did something rare. They believed before the punishment hit them. The surah holds them up as the exception. Most communities throughout history rejected their prophets and only believed after disaster came, by which point it was too late. Yunus's people changed course in time.
What makes the surah powerful is the patience it shows. It walks through arguments. The Quran isn't something a human could have written. The signs in nature aren't accidents. The previous prophets all said the same things. Then it tells the disbelievers: take your time, look at it carefully, but understand that the Day of Judgment is coming whether you accept it or not.
There's also the famous duaa from this surah, sometimes called the duaa of Yunus from inside the whale, though the actual words appear in Surah Al-Anbiya. What appears in this surah is the Prophet ﷺ (PBUH) being told to say, "If I am wrong about all this, the wrong is on me. If I am right, my message is for you." It's a remarkable line. It puts the choice back on whoever is reading.
